A homologous series is a group of compounds in which their functional group are same and the chemical properties of the compound were similar in which the successive compounds differ by CH2 group.

Homologous series is a group or a family of hydrocarbons in which the difference between any two successive members is a CH group or 14u mass. 

All members of a homologous series have the same functional group and thus possess similar chemical properties.
