Kinetic energy (KE) is the energy of motion. Any object that is in motion has kinetic energy. Kinetic energy is described by the following equation, where m = mass of the object (kg) and v = velocity:
KE1 = 1/2 x m x v2
if you have twice the velocity for the same mass, the kinetic energy will be four times the original value. by substituting 2v (twice the initial velocity) for v in the equation:
KE2=(1/2)m(2v)2=4((1/2)mv2)=4⋅KE1
