oxygen, the bonding electrons are at the 2-level, and the 8 protons in the nucleus are shielded by the 2 electrons in the 1s orbital. ... However, the bonding electrons in the sulphur are further from the nucleus, and so the attraction is lessened. So sulphur is less electronegative than oxygen

It is the process to synthesize alkylhalide from alcohol using ZnCl₂.

The reaction can be written as:
                               Anhyd ZnCl₂
R --- OH + H---X     ========>>   RX + H₂O

The reactivity order of  in the above reaction is : HI > HBr > HCl > HF

Reactivity order of alcohols =  3⁰ > 2⁰ > 1⁰ > MeOH

2⁰ and 3⁰ alcohols undergo SN₁ mechanism, whereas 1⁰ and MeOH undergo SN₂ mechanism. Concentrated HCl + anhy. ZnCl₂ is known as lucas reagent. In Groove's process, ZnCl₂ is used to weaken C-OH bond. In case of 3⁰ alcohol, ZnCl₂ is not required.

Example =                  Anhyd ZnCl₂
C₂H₅OH + HCl    ===========>>  C₂H₅Cl + H₂O

According Raoults law...the partial pressure of each component is directly proportional to mole fraction of solutions... Raoults law is given by...p=p*x where p is partial pressure or X Is mole fraction and p*is vapour pressure of pure component ... Henry's law is given by...p=kH x Where p is partial pressure and X Is mole fraction kH is proportionality constant ... Hence Raoults law is special case of Henry's law kH=p*...and both R.L and H.L obeyed in opposite composition ranges....hope so it helps u...?

Conductivity changes with the concentration of the electrolyte. The number of ions per unit volume carrying the current decreases on dilution, so conductivity always decreases with decrease in concentration. However, molar conductivity increases with dilution.

When aldehyde are treated with Tollen's reagent then they give the formation of carboxylate ion and silver mirror is formed whereas ketones do not give any such reaction. This test is used to distinguish between aldehydes and ketones. It is also known as "silver mirror test".

... Yang ... 5 years, 3 months ago

Dalton’s law of partial pressure is a gas law which states that the total pressure exerted by a mixture of gases is equal to the sum of the partial pressures exerted by each individual gas in the mixture.  For example, the total pressure exerted by a mixture of two gases A and B is equal to the sum of the individual partial pressures exerted by gas A and gas B.
