Coordination number

It is defined as the number of coordinate bonds formed by central metal atom, with the ligands. For example: In K4[Fe(CN)6], Fe has coordination number 6.

Tanya ?? 5 years, 3 months ago

For molecules and polyatomic ions the coordination number of an atom is determined by simply counting the other atoms to which it is bonded (by either single or multiple bonds). For example, [Cr(NH3)2Cl2Br2]− has Cr3+ as its central cation, which has a coordination number of 6 and is described as hexacoordinate...

Gram equivalent weight is equal to mass in grams numerically equal to Equivalent Weight. To calculate the Gram Equivalent Weight, we use the formula Eq = MW / n. Here we will learn how to calculate the Equivalent Weight Formula of a compound.

If the mass of a chemical entity is g grams, then the given mass contains gram equivalents given by valency factor× moles.

Tanya ?? 5 years, 3 months ago

The equivalent weight of an element is its gram atomic weight divided by its valence (combining power)

In many cases the oxidation number for first row transition metal ions will be either (II) or (III), but in any case you may find it easier to start with the M(II) from which you can easily add or subtract electrons to get the final electronic configuration.
