Inertia of a body is the measure of the body's resistance towards its own acceleration. Thus mass becomes a qualitative measureof its inertia.
Mass is scalar, thus linear inertia is scalar.
Rotational Inertia or Moment of Inertia is given by I = MR2 , It is a tensor that means it is neither a scalar nor is a vector.

Lateral strain/longitudinal strain. As u know when u are pulling an object there would be a change in diameter also and length hence it is deltaD/D÷deltaL/L Poissons ratio is between 0-0.5 only

?Ahista Mishra? 7 years ago

Within the elastic limit, the ratio of the lateral strain to the longitudinal strain is called Poisson's Ratio. It is denoted by (sigma). And the value of Sigma lies between - 1and 0.5. ???

Simple harmonic motion

Ankit Singh 7 years ago

Thanks priya and Ayushi
harmonic motion of constant amplitude in which the acceleration is proportional and oppositely directed to the displacement of the body from a position of equilibrium :- the projection on any diameter of a point in uniform motion around a circle.

Ayushi Ayushi 7 years ago

The classic example of this is a mass on a spring, because the more the mass stretches it, the more it feels a tug back towards the middle. A mass on a spring can be vertical, in which case gravity is involved, or horizontal on a smooth tabletop. If you imagine pulling a mass on a spring and then letting go, it will bounce back and forth around an equilibrium position in the middle. Like with all simple harmonic motion, the velocity will be greatest in the middle, whereas the restoring force (and therefore acceleration) will be greatest at the outside edges (at the maximum displacement). Another example of simple harmonic motion is a pendulum, though only if it swings at small angles.

Ayushi Ayushi 7 years ago

In mechanics and physics, simple harmonic motion is a special type of periodic motion or oscillation motion where the restoring force is directly proportional to the displacement and acts in the direction opposite to that of displacement.

Stress is force by area

Harsh Mishra 7 years ago

Stress is similar to Strain. For Example : I strains my ear ? to listen carefully that what my elders are saying because I am ? taking these days a lot of stress.

Saba Elias 7 years ago

Stress is defined as internal porperty of material which resist external loading

  • Geo means earth and stationary means at rest. This means something which is stationary.
  • Satellites orbiting around the Earth in equatorial plane with time period equal to 24 hours.
  • Appear to be stationary with respect to earth. They also rotate around earth with time period of 24 hours.
  • These satellites can receive telecommunication signals and broadcast them back to a wide area on earth.
  • Example: INSAT group of satellites.
