The Three Steps of Urine Formation. The kidneys filter unwanted substances from the blood and produce urine to excrete them. There are three main steps of urine formation: glomerular filtration, reabsorption, and secretion. Filtrate is produced by the glomerulus when the hydrostatic pressure produced by the heart pushes water and solutes through the filtration membrane. Glomerular filtration is a passive process as cellular energy is not used at the filtration membrane to produce filtrate. Filtration takes place in the glomerulus , which is the vascular beginning of the nephron . Approximately one-fourth of the blood flow from cardiac output circulates through the kidney, the greatest rate of blood flow for any organ .

-
Eukaryotic cells have the nucleus enclosed within the nuclear membrane.
-
The nucleus has mitochondria.
-
Flagella and cilia are the locomotory organs in a eukaryotic cell.
-
A cell wall is the outermost layer of the eukaryotic cells.
-
The cells divide by a process called mitosis.
-
The eukaryotic cells contain a cytoskeletal structure.
-
The nucleus contains a single, linear DNA, which carries all the genetic information.

The part of the Nephron in which the filtration occurs is called the Glomerulus.
A nephron is composed of the "Bowman's capsule" and the "Loop of Henle". The dynamic "physical forces" determine the single "nephron glomerular filtration". Here the Malpighian capsule or Glomerulus are placed in the Bowman's capsule where the filtration occurs.
Malpighian capsule consists of connecting capillaries and forms the major portion of the glomerulus.

Meristem : A meristem or meristematic tissues is a group of cells that are in a continuous state of division and thus continuously produce new cells. Location and function of meristems : On the basis of location and function, the meristems are of the following types:
(1) Apical meristems : These are present at the apices of stems, roots and branches. The activity of the apices of stems, adds to the length of the plant or its part.
(2) Intercalary meristems : These meristems are intercalated in between the permanent tissues. They may be present either at the base of the internode as in the stem of various grasses and wheat; or at the base of the leaf as in pinus; or at the base of a node as in mint. The activities of these meristems also add to the length of the plant or its organs.
(3) Lateral meristems : These meristems are present along the side of the stem. These include cambium and cork cambium. The activity of lateral meristems adds to the thickness of the plant.

Floral formula is a means to represent the structure of a flower using numbers, letters and various symbols, presenting substantial information about the flower in a compact form. It can represent particular species, or can be generalized to characterize higher taxa, usually giving ranges of organ numbers. Floral diagram is a graphic representation of flower structure. It shows the number of floral organs, their arrangement and fusion. Different parts of the flower are represented by their respective symbols. Floral diagrams are useful for flower identification or can help in understanding angiosperm evolution.

Floridian starch is a granular carbohydrate reserve present in red algae. It serves as energy storage material in red algae. Floridian starch has more resemblance with glycogen than starch. The true starch is stored inside plastids of the cell whereas the Floridian starch is not stored inside plastids.

High levels of ammonia can buildup in your fish tank. This often occurs when a tank is newly set up or when too many new fish are added at the same time. Symptoms include red or purple gills and/or fish gasping for breath at the water surface. The ammonia level can be reduced by a neutralizer and by a 50% water change. The gills lie behind and to the side of the mouth cavity and consist of fleshy filaments supported by the gill arches and filled with blood vessels, which give gills a bright red colour.
