Limitations of using per capita income as a development indicator:
Per capita income only gives an average income of the total population of the country, which includes earning population as well as non earning population.
Countries having less population might show more per capita income but the reality may be some thing different.
It is only a quantitative measure. It does not tell about the qualitative factors such as health, education, etc.

Generally, people desire to have regular work, better wages and good price for the crops they produce. Apart from earning more income, one may expect to have a better quality of life. The quality of life depends on non-material things such as equal treatment, security, respect for others and freedom in society.
For example, to join a new job, a person may consider certain factors other than income such as work environment, security and travelling. A woman may tend to work in a variety of jobs or start a business to receive a sense of security and freedom in the household and in society. Hence, every individual has their own priority to have material things or non-material things. ‘For development, people look at a mix of goals’–working women have more dignity in the household and society. When women are recognised in society, there would be more sharing of household work. A secured environment enables women to take up jobs in society or they may run a business. Hence, development goals are not only based on a rise in the income level but also on an increase in human value.

(i) While Britain was pre-occupied with war, industries had developed in Japan and India. After the war, Britain found it difficult to
recapture its earlier position.
{ii) Britain has borrowed liberally from the USA for its war time expenditure, thus at the end of the war, Britain was burdened with huge external debt.
(iii) After the war, production contracted which led to huge job losses. In 1921, one in every five British workers was out of work. Anxiety and uncertainty about work became an , enduring part of the post-war time.

Chief Minister Cavour who led the movement to unify the regions of Italy was neither a revolutionary nor a democrat. Like many other wealthy and educated members of the Italian elite, he spoke French much better than he did Italian. Through a tactful diplomatic alliance with France engineered by Cavour, Sardinia-Piedmont succeeded in defeating the Austrian forces in 1859. Apart from regular troops, a large number of armed volunteers under the leadership of Giuseppe Garibaldi joined the fray.
