In the historical period coins of precious metals started getting used as medium of exchange and this was the birth of money. As precious metals were difficult to procure, so slowly paper money or currency notes began to replace them.
Now the government or government authorized body in a country issues currency notes for circulation.
In India, the Reserve Bank of India issues currency notes. On the currency note you can observe the statement promising a particular amount to be paid to the bearer of the currency note.
Money removed the coincidence of wants factor and smoothens the exchange facilitating economic activity.

Sustainable development is the key to the stable growth of economy. It will not only lead to the development of the present economy but will also lead to its development in the future. It means that development should take place without damaging the environment, and development in the present should not compromise with the needs of the future generations. This concept stresses the role of the environment as capital that, if exhausted, cannot be replaced. It requires preservation of human capital, physical capital and natural capital.

Rise of Nationalism in Europe: Before the middle of the nineteenth century, the countries in Europe were not in the form as we know them today. Different regions in Europe were ruled by various multi-national dynastic empires. These were monarchies which enjoyed absolute power over their subjects. Various technological and the ensuing social changes helped in developing the ideas of nationalism. The process of creation of nation states began in 1789; with the French Revolution. It took about hundred years for the idea to gain concrete shape which resulted in the formation of France as a democratic nation state. The trend was followed in other parts of the Europe and led to the establishment of the modern democratic systems in most parts of the world; at the beginning of 20th century.

Three important reasons why the non-cooperation movement gradually slowed down in the cities are as follows:
- Whereas mill cloth was cheap due to mass production, khadi cloth was expensive. Hence, the urban poor couldn’t abstain from using mill cloth for too long.
- Alternative Indian institutions were slow to come up. As a result the non-cooperating Indians ultimately had to go back to British institutions.
- As a result, the students started attending government schools again and lawyers joined back in government courts.

The Non-Cooperation Movement slowed down in the cities for various reasons like:
- Khadi cloth was often more expensive than mass-produced mill cloth and poor people could not afford to buy it. So people could not boycott mill cloth for very long.
- The boycott of British institutions posed a problem as there were no alternative national institutions to fulfil educational needs.
- The students and teachers trickled to government schools. The lawyers joined government courts
- With all these, the enthusiasm of people in the cities lost their force.

Launched on April 6, 1930, the Civil Disobedience Movement was the most significant movement in the freedom struggle of India. The formation of the Simon Commission, Demand for Dominion Status and Protests against the arrest of social revolutionaries was the three most important causes of this movement.
Moreover, the newly introduced salt laws played an important role in launching the Civil Disobedience Movement. According to the new laws the Indian people were required to buy the vital mineral salt, on which the British government was practicing a monopoly. As salt was the basic need for all the sections of the society people under the leadership of M.K. Gandhi launched a March known as the "Dandi March" against the unjust laws of the British government.
This march was joined by thousands of Indians. Therefore, on April 6, 1930, Gandhi formally launched the Civil Disobedience Movement. The main objective of the Civil Disobedience movement is that the people wanted to break the unjust laws such as the salt tax law. In support of this movement, Indian people continued the production of salt and boycotted foreign clothes and goods. Farmers of India denied paying revenue and Chowkidari taxes. Indian administrators quit their jobs and in many states, tribal people violated forest laws.

The measures of the Act 1956 introduced by Sinhalese Government made the Sri Lankan Tamils feel alienated.
(i) They felt that none of the major political parties led by the Buddhist Sinhalese were sensitive to their language and culture.
(ii) They also felt that the constitutions and government policies denied them equal political rights.
(iii) Thus, they realised that government has discriminate against them in getting jobs and other opportunities by ignoring their interests.
(iv) As a result, the relations between the Sinhalese and Tamil communities strained over time.
