Land use pattern refers to the way the land is utilised.
- The Forest cover of the country is less than the prescribed 33% of the total country’s land. Forests occupy about 23.81% of the total land surface in India.
- Total net sown area of India is 46.24% of the total land in the country.
- Net sown area differs from state to state. While in Punjab and Haryana, the net sown area is more than 80% of the total land in the state, it is less than 10% in Arunanchal Pradesh, Mizoram, Manipur and Andaman Nicobar Islands. 3.38% of the total land is used for grazing while rests of the remaining lands are fallow and waste lands.
- In India, the land under permanent pasture has decreased.

- Swaraj was not achieved in one year as Gandhiji had told.
- However, it was a truly mass movement where lakhs of Indians participated in the open protest against the government through peaceful means.
- It shook the British government who were stumped by the extent of the movement.
- It saw participation from both Hindus and Muslims thereby showcasing communal harmony in the country.
- This movement established the popularity of the Congress Party among the people.
- As a result of this movement, people became conscious of their political rights. They were not afraid of the government.
- Hordes of people thronged to jails willingly.
- The Indian merchants and mill owners enjoyed good profits during this period as a result of the boycott of British goods. Khadi was promoted.
- The import of sugar from Britain reduced considerably during this period.
- This movement also established Gandhiji as a leader of the masses.

- The Ottoman empire disintegrated and European subject nationalities split up demanding their independence.
- Rivalry was at the peak during this period and the nation states formed various groups and colonies. The best examples of this were during both the World Wars that took place in this century.
- The concept of nation state was accepted readily in colonies and paved way for them to lead movements asking for independent nation states.

a. Events of February 1848, France influenced the liberal middle class who combined their demands for nation unification and constitutionalism, there was growing unrest among them. This event had influenced the liberal revolution in 1848. It became an inspiration in entire Europe where independent nations did not exist like Germany, Italy, Poland.
b.There was an increased demand for constitutionalism and national unification by the people.
c. There was a demand for a nation state , freedom of press etc.
d. Rise of political associations, groups among women and growing demand for suffrage and political rights became quite widespread in Europe,
e. Though conservatives were able to suppress liberal movements in 1848,Monarchs realised that the cycles of revolution could only be ended by granting concessions to the liberal-nationalist revolutionaries and by conceding to some of their demands.
f. In the years after 1848, the autocratic monarchies of Central and Eastern Europe began to introduce the changes.
g. Serfdom and bonded labour were abolished in Habsburg dominions and in Russia.
h. Hungarians were granted more autonomy by Habsburg rulers.

The Tughlaq dynasty also referred to as Tughluq or Tughluk dynasty, was a Muslim dynasty of Turko-Indian origin which ruled over the Delhi sultanate in medieval India. Its reign started in 1320 in Delhi when Ghazi Malik assumed the throne under the title of Ghiyath al-Din Tughluq. The dynasty ended in 1413.

Mahatma Gandhi withdrew non-cooperation movement due to the following reasons :-
- Non-cooperation movement was meant to be a peaceful protest, but after the Chauri- Chaura incident, it was evident that the people turned to violence.
- Gandhiji felt that the people of India were not ready for a nation wide movement of mass struggle and felt that he should withdraw the movement.
- Moreover, many members of the Indian National Congress felt that the Non-cooperation movement was tiresome and unnecessary, since they wanted to contest in the elections.
