Out of India’s total geographical area of 328.7 million hectares, the statistical information about the land use pattern in India is available for only about 305.69 million hectares. Land resources in India are primarily divided into agricultural land, forest land, land meant for pasture and grazing, land for other non-agricultural use (such as housing, roads, and industry) and wasteland (rocky, arid and desert areas). According to recent data available, (2008-09), the percentage of Net Sown Area an (NSA) in India is about 54% of the total reporting area 22.78% is covered by forests and 3.38% is used for grazing. The rest is a wasteland with traces of miscellaneous cultivation.
Land under forest not increased much since 1960 because there has been constant deforestation for expanding agricultural fields, for building residential areas, highways, dams, mining, quarrying etc.

Power sharing is the spirit of democracy because it is one of the foundational principles on which the concept of democratic rule is based. In a democracy, the people have a right to be consulted on how they should be governed and all the citizens tend to have the same political and legal rights. Each individual and community has a say in governance through their elected representatives. This is the essence of power sharing which grants equal rights to each citizen and attempts to reduce the possibility of social friction and unrest among communities through peaceful solution of conflicts. Therefore, power sharing is an essential component of democracy and hence is the very spirit of it.
