The term ‘Industrial Revolution’ stands for those developments and inventions which revolutionised the technique and organisation of production in the later half of the 18 th century. This Industrial Revolution replaced the previous domestic system of production by the new factory system. In place of manual and animal power, new machines and steam power were used for producing things. This revolution replaced cottage industries by factories, hand labour by machine work and craftsmen and artists by capitalists and factory owners.

The impact of Rowlatt Satyagrah on political situation in India was immense. Gandhi organised Rowlatt Satyagrah against the Rowlatt Act which gave enormous power to the government to suppress the political activities of Indian leaders.

In opposition of the Act, protests and rallies were organised in various cities, workers went on strikes in railway workshops, and shops closed down. The British government tried to suppress the nationalist activity brutally. Local leaders were picked up from Amritsar, and Mahatma Gandhi was barred from entering Delhi. After attacks on post offices and railways, martial law was imposed and General Dyer took command. Jallianwala Bagh massacre took place on April 13, 1919. This incident shocked the entire nation. As the news of Jallianwalla Bagh spread, crowds took to the streets in many north Indian towns. There were strikes, clashes with the police and attacks on government buildings.

Thus, we can say that the Rowlatt Satyagrah led to an increase in nationalist activities of people in the country

For the purpose of establishing direct control over the weavers in monopolising trade, the British appointed Gomasthas who would supervise thee weavers, collect supplies from them and examine the quality of cloth. This eliminated the system of broker or middlemen.
The weavers had clashes with the Gomasthas who were being rude to them. They were outsiders who had no social attachment with the village. They were not like the supply merchants who use to understand the problems of the weavers and even helped them in need. These Gomasthas entered the village arrogantly with the sepoys and physically assaulted the weavers for delays in work.
The weavers got very low prices for their products and could not even bargain more. They were tied up with the Company for the loans they have taken so thy could not even sell their products to other buyers.
