  • Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is the market value of the final goods and services produced during a year within the domestic territory of a country.
<div>
  • Here only final goods and services are counted to avoid the problem of double counting.
    • For e.g. a farmer sold wheat to flour mill for Rs. 10 per kg. The mill grinds the wheat and sold the flour to a biscuit company for Rs. 12 per kg. The biscuit company uses the flour, sugar and butter to make 5 biscuit packets. He sold the biscuit to the consumer at Rs. 15 per biscuit packet.
    • Here biscuits are the final goods that are purchased by the consumer. Wheat and wheat flour are the intermediate goods used in the production of final good.
    • The value of Rs. 75 already includes the value of flour Rs. 12.
    • Hence only the value of final goods and services.

Therefore, GDP  = Value of output − Intermediate Consumption

The spread of the ideas of nationalism and the disintegration of the Ottoman Empire saw the different Balkan nationalities vying for statehood in the 19th century. However, these nationalities were intensely jealous of each other due to ethnic differences and hence sought to expand their territories at each others' expense. At the same time, the bigger colonial powers like Britain, France and Russia too began to intervene in the politics of the region to achieve their strategic goals. This gave birth to a tense crisis situation in the Balkans which ultimately resulted in the First World War.

b. They are not allowed to enter in some of the temples by the priests.
c. Prohibited from eating with other caste members.
d. Prohibited from marrying other upper caste members.

The Civil Disobedience Movement led by M K Gandhi, in the year 1930 was an important milestone in the history of Indian Nationalism. There are three distinct phases that mark the development of Indian Nationalism. In the first phase, the ideology of the moderates dominated the political scenario. This was followed by the prominence of the extremist ideologies. In the third phase of Indian Nationalism the most significant incident was the rise of MK Gandhi, popularly known as Mahatma Gandhi, to power as the leader of Indian National Movements. Under his spirited guidance, the National Movements of the country took shape.
The Indians learnt how apparently philosophical tenets like non violence and passive resistance, could be used to wage political battles. The programs and policies adopted in the movements spearheaded by Gandhi reflected his political ideologies of ahimsa and satyagraha. While the Non-Co-Operation Movement was built on the lines of non violent non co operation, the essence of The Civil Disobedience Movement was defying of the British laws. Through his leadership to the National Movements, he not only buttressed his political stance but also played a crucial role in unification of the country, awakening of the masses, and bringing politics within the arena of the common man.
