The introduction of money resulted in the end of the barter system where goods were exchanged according to the needs. Now, money acts as an intermediate in the exchange process, and thus, it is known as a medium of exchange. Anyone can exchange his goods for money and buy commodities that are required by him or his family.
For examples, a fruit seller wants to sell his fruits in order to buy wheat. In absence of money, he will have to look for some person who wants to sell wheat and buy fruits. This is not easy and always possible. However, in the case of availability of money as a medium of exchange, the fruit seller just has to find a buyer for his fruits. Once fruits are exchanged for money, he can now purchase wheat from the market.

When any religion gets represented in Politics exclusively, this gives rise to Communalism. The beliefs of one religion are treated superior to another, the demands of any particular religion are raised while others are suppressed.
• This thinking of superiority deters a nation from unity. Every religion desire to form a separate political unit.
• In India Political mobilization on religious lines is frequent. The political leaders use religion as a tool to gain votes and to get elected.
• The Political party appeals or lure one particular religion over others.
• These above cases lead to Communal Violence.
• India has already witnessed such violence in past during India Pakistan Partition.
• Even Post Independence large-scale communal violence has occurred, example Gujrat Riots in 2002 among Hindus and Muslims.

Under globalisation, particularly after 1990, the farmers in India have been exposed to new challenges. Despite being an important producer of rice, cotton, rubber, tea, coffee, jute and spices our agricultural products are not able to compete with the developed countries because of the highly subsidised agriculture in those countries.During the British period cotton belts of India attracted the British and ultimately cotton was exported to Britain as a raw material for their textile industries. Cotton textile industry in Manchester and Liverpool flourished due to the availability of good quality cotton from India.

(i) Development of cotton industries in England : As cotton industries developed in England, industrial group; began worrying about imports from other countries. They pressurised the government to impose import duties on cotton textiles so that Manchester goods could sell in Britain without facing any competition from outside.
(ii) Growth of mills and falling demand :
With growing mill; and falling home demand British industrialists persuaded the East India Company to sell British manufactures in Indian markets as well.
(iii) Two edge policy : To sell its manufactures in India East India Company followed a two edged policy i.e. no taxes on import; but high taxes on exports.
(iv) Manchester goods in India : Cotton weavers and small producer; in India thus faced two problems at the same time, their export market collapsed and the local market shrank, being glutted with Manchester imports. Produced by machines at lower costs, the imported cotton goods were so cheap that weavers could no: easily compete with them.
(v) Shortage of raw material : By the 1860;, weavers faced a new problem. They could not get sufficient supply of raw cotton of good quality When the American Civil War broke out and cotton supplies from the US were cut off. Britain turned to India. .As raw cotton exports from India increased, the price of raw cotton shot up. Weavers in India were starved of supplies and forced to buy raw cotton at exorbitant prices. In this, situation weaving could not pay.

Over lapping social difference: If social differences overlap each other it may lead to social division and if one social difference is given preference then people would begin to think that they belong to different community. It always leads to social division and disintegration of the country. Example:- USA: The blacks are discriminated by the whites due to their poverty (racial discrimination).
Cross cutting social difference: If social difference cross-cut each other we would find it difficult to find which group is against the other. These groups may have similar views on some issues and different on other issues. It encourages diversity and accommodates unity.
Example:- NETHERLAND: The main religion here is Christianity. They have division as Catholics and Protestants. Here class and religion cross-cut each other. Neither of them are rich or poor and do not have conflict between them.
