There are three sectors of economy feasibly found i.e. Primary sector, Secondary sector and Tertiary sector. All the three sectors are interdependent.
Some examples are given to elucidate this fact
(i) Agricultural activities produce raw materials for agro- based industries and food for employees in Secondary and Tertiary sectors. It shows industrial sector and service sector’s dependency on Primary sector.
(ii) Industrial activities produce instruments like tractor, fertiliser for agricultural inputs and increase production and productivity in agriculture. Here, Primary sector depends on Secondary sector.
(iii) Transportation facilities are much required for transportation of agricultural products and industrial products to market rural and urban centres. Here, Primary and Secondary sector depend on Tertiary sector.

The main aim of the revolutionaries of Europe during the years following 1815 was a commitment to oppose monarchical forms of governance that had been established and to fight for liberty and freedom.
NOTE – After Napoleon was defeated, conservatism as an ideology emerged in different regions of Europe. Conservative systems of governance were autocratic (monarch) in nature. They did not tolerate criticism and curbed the freedom of citizens. A wide range of censorship laws was also set in place, thus restricting the freedom of speech and expression of the common man. This injustice led to the emergence of the meaning and importance of freedom and liberty and the need to oppose the unjust rule of the monarch (autocratic).

The East India Company appointed Gomasthas in India due to the following reasons :
(i) Before 1760s, British cotton industries had not expanded and Indian fine textiles were in great demand in Europe.
(ii) The East India Company wanted to expand exports from India but French, Dutch, Portuguese and local traders competed in the market.
(iii) The weavers and supply merchants could bargain and try selling the products to the best buyer.
Hence they appointed Gomasthas to supervise and collect supplies.

The Jallianwala Bagh massacre, also known as the Amritsar massacre, took place on 13 April 1919 when Acting Brigadier-General Reginald Dyer ordered troops of the British Indian Army to fire their rifles into a crowd of unarmed civilians in Jallianwala Bagh, Amritsar, Punjab, killing at least 400, including 41 children, one only six weeks old. Over 1,000 were injured.

On 13th April 1919, the infamous Jallianwala Bagh incident took place. On that day, a crowd of villagers who had come to Amritsar to attend a fair gathered in the enclosed ground of Jallianwala Bagh. Being from outside the city, they were unaware of the martial law that had been imposed.General Dyer entered the area, blocked the only exit point, and opened fire on the crowd, killing and wounding hundreds of people. His objective was to ‘produce a moral effect’ to create in the minds of satyagrahis, a feeling of terror and awe. As the news spread, crowds took to the streets. There were strikes, clashes with police and attacks on government buildings. The government responded with brutal repression.

Non cooperation movement was a mass movement which was launched by Gandhi in 1920. It was a peaceful and a non-violent protest against the British government in India.
Programmes of the Non Cooperation movement were:

  • Indians were asked to relinquish their titles and resign from nominated seats in the local bodies as a mark of protest.
  • People had to resign from their government jobs.
  • People were asked to withdraw their children from government-controlled or aided schools and colleges.
  • People had to boycott foreign goods and use only Indian-made goods.

The main aim of the Non Cooperation movement was the demand of 'Swaraj' or the self government.

Holding together federalism

Coming together federalism

When a large country decides to divide its power between the constituent States and the national government, it is known as Holding together federalism.

Independent states come together on their own to form a bigger unit, it is known as Coming together federalism.

In this kind of federation, all the constituent States usually have equal powers

In this kind of federation, the central government tends to be more powerful vis-à-vis the States.

All the states come together to pool their sovereignty and retain identity to increase their security

The central government ensures the sovereignty of the country.
