First, the printed books closely resembled the written manuscripts in appearance and layout.Second, the metal letters imitated the ornamental hand styles.
Third, borders in printed books were illuminated by hand with foliage and other patterns and illustration were painted. In the books for the rich, space for decoration was kept blank on the printed page. After each purchaser had chosen the design then the painting school would do the illustrators so new technology did not entirely displace the existing art of producing books by hand.

The first clear expression of nationalism came from the French Revolution. Revolutionaries introduced various measures and practices to create a sense of collective identity like notion of “la partie” (the fatherland) and “le citoyen”(the citizen), the tricolour, discouraging regional dialects etc.
As the revolution spread to other european cities the students and the middle class were influenced by these ideas and started Jacobin clubs, preparing for the arrival of French Armies. Napoleon implemented the Civil Code of 1804 which did away with all privileges based on birth, introduced a centralised administrative system. The people eventually turned hostile as the disadvantages of higher taxes, lack of poltical rights and forced conscription to French Army couldn't be overcome by increased efficiency.

The imperial state of China was a major producer of printed material as it possessed a bureaucratic system to which personnel were selected through a civil services examination. Thus printing of books started rapidly all over the nation which later on was hastened by authors and rich merchants. But specifically there was no such person or company who started the process . Travellers like Marco Polo ,etc. played a big role in spreading this knowledge to Europe from where it spread to the rest of the world.
