Yogita Ingle 6 years ago

Energy lite of waste water discharged by one industry pollutes eight times the quantity of fresh water.

  • Minimising use of water for procuring by reusing and recycling it in two or more successive stages.
  • Harvesting of rain water can be dense to meet water requirement.
  • Treating hot water and effluents before releasing them in rivers and ponds.

Globalisation is benificial for large industrialists. But many small scale workers were not assured of their work.

Yogita Ingle 6 years ago

It is true that the impact of globalisation has not been uniform.
This can he explained through the following points
(i) Globalisation has some negative impacts on employment and real wages. Due to ushering in of new technologies, output increases, but employment opportunities are not much, especially in rural areas, where over 60% of the population lives.
(ii) Globalisation is mainly beneficial to‘large capitalists, industries and large companies. Consequently, it increases the concentration of economic power and leads to inequalities.
(iii) In India, during 1990-9.1 more than 33% of national product originated in the agricultural sector, but this share has come down to 23% in 2004-05.

Napoleon was defeated in 1815 by the combined power of Britain, Russia, Prussia and Austria. After the defeat of Napoleon, European governments wanted to follow conservatism. The conservatives believed that established, traditional institutions of state and society should be preserved. They believed in preserving the monarchy, the Church, social hierarchies, property and the family. But most of them also wanted to retain the modernization which Napoleon carried out in the spheres of administration. The conservatives believed that modernization would strengthen traditional institutions. It was believed that a modern army, an efficient bureaucracy, a dynamic economy, the abolition of feudalism and serfdom could strengthen the monarchies of Europe.

Each member of the UN Security Council is allotted one vote. Decisions on procedural matters are made by an affirmative vote of nine members, including the concurring votes of all permanent members. The negative vote of a permanent member is known as a ‘veto’. The Council cannot act on a particular matter if any of the permanent members uses the veto power. However, abstinence from voting does not amount to a negative vote or veto.

Sureka Kr 6 years ago

A veto (Latin for "I forbid") is the power (used by an officer of the state, for example) to unilaterally stop an official action, especially the enactment of legislation.

Novels were easily available in the late eighteenth and the early nineteenth centuries because of the following reasons:

1. Many new innovations in printing technology reduced the prices of novels. This led to the expansion of reading public.

2. Novels created an altogether different worlds and characters which lured the people. The worlds created by novels were absorbing and believable. People got lost in plot and sub-plots of the novels. Readers were so much engrossed in reading novels that they felt themselves to be transported to another person’s world and began to experience life as felt by the characters.

3. Novels also gave to the people the joy of reading in private. Later, they discussed the plots, sub-plots and characters of the novels with friends, colleagues and relatives.

The most basic outcome of democracy is that it produces a government that is accountable to the citizens, and responsive to the needs and expectations of the citizens.

Democratic government can apparently be less efficient than a non-democratic government. This happens because a non-democratic government does not need to arrive at consensus among a diverse set of people. Democracy functions on the basis of deliberation and negotiation and hence decisions are often delayed. But this does not mean that a democratic government is less efficient.

A non-democratic government may be able to take decisions in non time. But one needs to assess if those decisions are acceptable to the masses or are they really solving people’s problems.

A democratic government is more transparent than a non-democratic government. A citizen has the right to know the processes which were followed while taking a decision in a democratic government. Thus, a democratic government is more accountable and responsive to its citizens.

A democratic government is legitimate government because it is elected by the people. This is the reason that democratic governments are thriving in most of the countries.

• Democratic government ensures transparency in the process of decision making.

• Right to Information Act enables every citizen of the country to have the right to information about the structure of the government and every policy and rule made by them.

• When any decision made or meetings held by the government is open to discussion for citizens of the country, and when any budget approved by the government is open to examination, to check whether it is beneficial for their country or not, it is termed as transparency.

1. Giuseppe Garibaldi was an Italian nationalist revolutionary who fought for Italian independence and political unification. In 1848, he played an important role in the movement for Italian freedom by organising the Red Shirts, a corps of volunteers. He also formed an alliance with Victor Emanuel, the king of Sardinia, and Count Cavour. Because of his popularity, a large number of Italians pledged their allegiance to the king of Sardinia. Later in 1859, Garibaldi launched a campaign against Austria. He conquered Sicily and Naples in 1860. Soon, there was a revolt in the Papal States and they joined the fledgling Italian Republic. As a result of this unification, a united Italy was finally established in 1861 with Victor Emanuel as its king.
