‘Democracy is based on the idea of deliberation and negotiation’.This statement is explained below:

● Democracy gives a lot of importance to the concept of deliberation and opinion of the general public.

● The democratic government will take a little bit more time to follow the procedures for arriving at a decision.

● Once a decision is taken it can be acceptable and more effective to the people.

● The concept of democracy ensures that transparency is maintained so that every person has the right to examine the process of decision making.

● It also ensures that the decisions are taken based on the appropriate norms and procedures of the government.

● These decisions must be accountable to the people and the government has developed appropriate mechanisms for the citizens to hold the government accountable.

Today, the world is called a global village, thanks to faster communication, quicker and improved modes of travel, inter-continental trade and freer movement of people from one corner of the globe to another.
Each country is blessed with some resource or the other. For instance, petroleum in the Arabic region, Jute in Bangladesh and India, Coffee in African countries, Ruby in Myanmar, Gold and Diamond in South Africa and so on. Therefore, international trade is the only recourse left to countries to import products they do not have and export those products they have in excess or in abundance. Hence, in today's day and age, no country can survive without carrying out international trade.

Yes, it is true. These organisations play their role in two ways:

  • One way of influencing the decisions in a democracy is direct participation in competitive politics. This is done by creating parties, contesting elections and forming governments.
  • There are many indirect ways in which people can get government to listen to their demands or their points of view. They could do so by forming an organisation and undertaking activities to promote their interest or their viewpoint. These are called interest groups or pressure groups.
Sometimes, people decide to act together without forming organisations.
