Jowar, bajra and ragi are the important millets grown in India. They can grow in harsh climatic conditions with low rainfall and poor soils. Due to greater roughage content among the nutrients present they are called coarse grains.
They are important food crops after rice and wheat. Inspite of being coarse grains they have very high nutritional value and are known as the poor man’s cereal.
Jowar is the third most important food crop of India with respect to area and production. It is a rain-fed kharif crop, mostly grown in the moist areas which hardly need irrigation. Maharashtra is the largest producer of jowar, followed by Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh.
Bajra grows well on sandy soils and shallow black soil. Rajasthan is the largest producer, followed by Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Gujarat and Haryana.
Ragi is very rich in iron, calcium and other micro-nutrients and roughage. It grows in dry regions in areas of red, black, sandy, loamy and shallow black soil. Karnataka is the largest producer, followed by Tamil Nadu, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh and Jharkhand.

In a democracy, the three organs of the government namely executive, legislature and judiciary perform different functions. The powers of all the three organs are separated so that no organ becomes too powerful and is able to keep a check on the other organs. For example, even though ministers and government officials exercise power, they are held responsible to the Parliament or the State Assemblies. Likewise, although judges are appointed by the executive branch of the government, they have the authority to check the functioning of the executive or legislations passed by the legislature. This arrangement is called the system of checks and balances.

  • In addition, lender may demand collateral, i.e., an asset that the borrower owns and uses this as a guarantee until the loan is repaid.
  • If the borrower fails to repay the loan, the lender has the right to sell the collateral to obtain payment.
  • Terms of credit comprise interest rate, collateral and documentation requirement, and the mode of repayment.
*The terms of credit vary substantially from one credit arrangement to another. They may vary depending on the nature of the lender and the borrower.

Nationalist tensions emerged in the Balkans because of the spread of ideas of romantic nationalism as also the disintegration of the Ottoman Empire that had previously ruled over this area. The different Slavic communities in the Balkans began to strive for independent rule. They were jealous of each other and every state wanted more territory, even at the expense of others. Also, the hold of imperial power over the Balkans made the situation worse. Russia, Germany, England, Austro-Hungary all wanted more control over this area. These conflicts ultimately led to the First World War in 1914.

Conservation of resources is the ethical and sustainable use and the protection of valuable natural resources by humans. These resources include all the natural wealth, both renewable and non-renewable, on this planet like air, water, minerals, soil, plants and crops, animals, oil and gas, timber, etc. These are the resources that provide the basic sources or needs of living like water, food, clothing and shelter. The ever surging population and the resultant urbanization and industrialization are the main causes of depletion or destruction of these resources. Hence, these resources should be conserved and renewed to meet the demand and supply of the present and the future needs.

i)No national language: Our Constitution did not give the status of national language to any one language. Hindi was identified as the official language. But Hindi is the mother tongue of only about 40 percent of Indians. Therefore, there were many safeguards to protect other languages.  ii) Scheduled languages:. Besides Hindi, there are 21 other languages recognised as Scheduled Languages by the Constitution. A candidate in an examination conducted for the Central Government positions may opt to take the examination in any of these languages.  iii) Spread of Hindi with a cautious approach: Unlike Sri Lanka, the leaders of our country adopted a very cautious attitude in spreading the use of Hindi. According to the Constitution, the use of English for official purposes was to stop in 1965. However, many nonHindi speaking States demanded that the use of English  continue. In Tamil Nadu, this movement took a violent form. The Central Government responded by agreeing to continue the use of English along with Hindi for official purposes. Promotion of Hindi continues to be the official policy of the Government of India. Promotion does not mean that the Central Government can impose Hindi on States where people speak a different language.

Land-use pattern in India is a dynamic concept. It changes over space and time. Land-use pattern in India is as follows: 1. About 46% area is the net sown area in the country. 2. Forests occupy about 22% of the reporting area. 3. The cultivable waste land accounts for nearly 5% of the area. 4. The fallow land covers about 8% of the total area. 5. Permanent pastures and tree crops cover only 5%. 6. The land not available for cultivation is nearly 14% of the total area. The factors which determine land use are two fold: (a) Physical – climate, soil and relief. (b) Human – culture, tradition and technology. The main causes for the change in Land-use pattern are – 1. Growing human population 2. Urbanization 3. Industrialisation, This then varies from state to state also. The above mentioned factors are also responsible for the decrease in land under forest which is around 19% i.e. 14% away from 33% norm of UNO body on environment protection but a slight improvement after 1960-61 i.e. of 22% of the total geographical area. I think I answered right ??
