Corrosion is the process in which metals are eaten up gradually by the action of air, moisture or a chemical (such as an acid) on their surface. Rusting of iron metal is the most common form of corrosion. During the corrosion of iron, iron metal is oxidised by the oxygen of air in the presence of water (moisture) to form hydrated iron oxide called rust.
The condition produced by aerial oxidation of fats and oils in foods marked by unpleasant smell and taste is called rancidity. It spoils the food materials prepared in fats and oils which have been kept for a considerable time and makes them unfit for eating.
Methods to prevent rancidity:
(i) Rancidity can be prevented by adding anti-oxidants to foods containing fats and oils.
(ii) It can be prevented by packaging fat and oil containing foods in nitrogen gas.
(iii) Rancidity can be retarded by keeping food in a refrigerator.
(iv) Rancidity can be prevented by storing food in air-tight containers.
(v) Storing foods away from light can also prevent rancidity.

pH change - Cause of tooth decay:
Tooth decay starts when the pH in the mouth falls below 5.5. Tooth enamel is made up of calcium phosphate which is the hardest substance in the body. It is insoluble in water but gets corroded when the pH in the mouth falls below 5.5. The bacteria present in the mouth produce acids due to the degradation of sugar and food particles after eating. Hence, to prevent tooth decay, the mouth should be rinsed after eating food and toothpastes which are basic should be used for cleaning teeth to neutralise the excess acid.

During a chemical reaction, the substances that react are known as reactants whereas the substances that are formed during a chemical reaction are known as products. Six common types of chemical reactions are discussed below.
| Types of Chemical Reactions | Explanation | General Reaction |
| Combination reaction | Two or more compounds combine to form one compound. | A + B → AB |
| Decomposition reaction | The opposite of a combination reaction – a complex molecule breaks down to make simpler ones. | AB → A + B |
| Precipitation reaction | Two solutions of soluble salts are mixed resulting in an insoluble solid (precipitate) forming. | A + Soluble salt B → Precipitate + soluble salt C |
| Neutralization reaction | An acid and a base react with each other. Generally, the product of this reaction is a salt and water. | Acid + Base → Salt + Water |
| Combustion reaction | Oxygen combines with a compound to form carbon dioxide and water. These reactions are exothermic, meaning they give off heat. | A + O2 → H2O + CO2 |
| Displacement reaction | One element takes place with another element in the compound. | A + BC → AC + B |

The gallbladder is a small pouch that sits just under the liver. The gallbladder stores bile produced by the liver. In response to signals, the gallbladder squeezes stored bile into the small intestine through a series of tubes called ducts. Bile helps digest fats, but the gallbladder itself is not essential. The gallbladder serves as a reservoir for bile while it's not being used for digestion. The gallbladder's absorbent lining concentrates the stored bile. The bile helps the digestive process by breaking up fats. It also drains waste products from the liver into the duodenum, a part of the small intestine.
The tongue is vital for chewing and swallowing food, as well as for speech. The four common tastes are sweet, sour, bitter, and salty. A fifth taste, called umami, results from tasting glutamate (present in MSG). The tongue has many nerves that help detect and transmit taste signals to the brain.

The word “parasite” is derived from the Greek word meaning, “the one that eats at the table of others”, and is estimated to be from around 5900 BC.
Parasites are an incredibly varied group of organisms that live within host cells. They are smaller than their host organism and reproduce faster by causing more damage to the host. They receive all sorts of benefits like food and shelter from the host. Their size ranges from tiny, single-celled organisms to worms over 20- 30 m in length.
For example- Tapeworms, that are flat, segmented worms, live in the intestines of animals by absorbing the host’s nutrients.
