When we do vigorous exercise, our body requires instant energy and it is filled through anaerobic respiration. As anaerobic respiration is a two-step process, it gives energy much faster. Hence, This makes the muscle cells to break down glucose to produce lactic acid and energy. Since a lot of lactic acid gets accumulated in our muscles, this causes muscle cramps.

A mixture or an alloy of mercury with a number of metals or alloys such as sodium as well as with some non-metals is known as amalgam.
Uses:
1. Sodium is highly reactive metal and therefore it is difficult to transport. To lower its reactivity, it is mixed with mercury.
2. Dental amalgam is a mixture of mercury and a silver-tin alloy and is used for fillings in teeth.

Types of decomposition reaction
Let us look at the three main types of decomposition reactions which we see around us.
-
- Thermal decomposition reaction A thermal decomposition reaction can be defined as a decomposition reaction which is activated by thermal energy. The reaction is generally endothermic as energy is required to break chemical bond in order to separate the constituent elements.
- example of thermal decomposition reaction
- CaCO3 → CaO + CO2 When heated Calcium Carbonate, decomposes into Calcium Oxide and Carbon Dioxide. This process is employed in the manufacturing of quick lime which is an important component in industries.

- Electrolytic decomposition reaction
-
-
- An electrolytic decomposition reaction is a type of decomposition reaction in which the activation energy for decomposition. Example of electrolytic decomposition reaction
- Dissociation of water:2H2O→ 2H2 + O2

- Photo decomposition/ photolytic decomposition/ photochemical decomposition
-
- A photo decomposition is the type of decomposition reaction in which the reactant is broken down to its constituents by photons.Example of photo decomposition reaction
- O3 + hν → O2 + O(1D)Photolysis occurs in the atmosphere wherein ozone molecules is broken down into oxygen molecule and atomic oxygen.

Those reactions in which two compounds react by an exchange of ions to form two new compounds are called double displacement reactions.
Example: AgNO3 (aq) + NaCl (aq) {tex}\rightarrow{/tex} AgCl (s)+ NaNO3 (aq)
When silver nitrate solution is added to sodium chloride solution, then a white precipitate of silver chloride is formed alongwith sodium nitrate solution. In this reaction, two compounds, silver nitrate and sodium chloride, react to form two new compounds, silver chloride and sodium nitrate.

Metabolic enzymes catalyze catabolic reactions that break down carbohydrates contained in food. The energy released is used to power the cells and systems that make up your body. Carbohydrate metabolism begins in the mouth, where the enzyme salivary amylase begins to break down complex sugars into monosaccharides. In the metabolism of carbohydrates, the liver helps to ensure that the level of sugar in your blood (blood glucose) stays constant. If your blood sugar levels increase, for example after a meal, the liver removes sugar from blood supplied by the portal vein and stores it in the form of glycogen.
