- A rainbow is a natural spectrum of sunlight in the form of bows appearing in the sky when the sun shines on rain drops.
- It is combined result of reflection, refraction and dispersion of sunlight from water droplets, in atmosphere.
- Always it formed in the direction opposite to the sun.
- To see a rainbow, the sun must behind us and the water droplets falls infront of us.
- When a sunlight enters into a spherical rain¬drop, it is refracted and dispersed. The different colours of light bent in different angles.
- When different colours of light fall on the back inner surface of drop, it (water drop) reflects (different colours of light) internally (total internal reflection).
- The water drops again refracts the different colours, when it comes out from the raindrop.
- After leaving this different colours from the raindrop as rainbow, reach our eye. Thus, we see a rainbow.

Self Help Group (SHG) is a group of about 15-20 members who pool their savings together. Following are the advantages of SHG:
- Members can take loans from the group’s savings themselves on a decided rate of interest. The rate of interest is much lower than the interest that is charged by the informal sources.
After two years of regular savings, the SHG can also take a loan from the bank. Loan is given on the name of the group and creates tremendous opportunities for self-employment of the members.
-
Due to SHG, the poor members are able to avail loan even in the absence of collateral.
-
Many women as the members of SHGs have become economically independent. This has led to women empowerment at the rural levels.

A displacement reaction is the one wherein the atom or a set of atoms is displaced by another atom in a molecule. For instance, when Iron is added to a copper sulphate solution, it displaces the copper metal.
A + B-C → A-C + B
The above equation exists when A is more reactive than B.
A and B have to be either:
- Halogens where C indicates a cation.
- Different metals wherein C indicates an anion.

It states that if you holding the current-carrying conductor in your right hand such that the thumb points in direction of the current, then the direction in which the fingers encircle, gives the direction of magnetic lines. This rule is also called Maxwell's Corkscrew Rule.

Electrolysis of Salt Water. In chemistry, electrolysis is a method of separating bonded elements and compounds by passing an electric current through them. An ionic compound, in this case salt, is dissolved with an appropriate solvent, such as water, so that its ions are available in the liquid. The electrolysis of brine is a large-scale process used to manufacture chlorine from salt. Two other useful chemicals are obtained during the process, sodium hydroxide (NaOH) and hydrogen (H2).

- Nutrition in human beings takes place through parts like mouth, stomach, small intestine, large intestine, ****
- The process of nutrition takes place through an alimentary canal which is a long tube extending from the mouth to the ****.
- Complex foods should be converted to smaller ones by crushing the food with teeth and by the enzyme salivary amylase of saliva secreted by salivary glands.
- Salivary amylase breaks down starch which is a complex molecule into sugar.
- As the canal lining is soft so food is made wet to make the passage smooth.
- The alimentary canal has different parts and the food should be moved in a regulated manner along the digestive tube so the food is processed properly in each part.
- The canal has muscles that contract rhythmically to push the food forward and this movement of food is called peristaltic movement which occurs all along the gut.
- The food is taken to the stomach through the food pipe or oesophagus from mouth.
- The muscular wall of stomach mixes the food with more digestive juices secreted by the gastric glands present in the wall of the stomach.
- Gastric gland releases hydrochloric acid, a protein digesting enzyme called as pepsin, mucus.
- Enzyme pepsin acts on the food and hydrochloric acid facilitates the action of pepsin.
- Mucus protects the inner lining of the stomach from the action of acid under normal conditions.
- From stomach acidic food enters small intestine, the longest part of alimentary canal and this is regulated by sphincter muscle.
- Complete digestion of carbohydrates, protein and fats take place in the small intestine by the secretions of liver and pancreas.
- Bile secreted by liver makes the acidic food alkaline and acts on large globules of fat into smaller globules so that the enzymes can act on easily.
- The process of breakdown of large fats globules into small globules which increases the efficiency of the pancreatic enzymes is called
- Pancreas secrete pancreatic juice which contains enzyme trypsin to break for digesting proteins, lipase for digesting emulsified fats.
- The walls of the small intestine contain glands secreting intestinal juice which converts finally complex carbohydrates into glucose, proteins to amino acids and fats into fatty acids and glycerol.
- The inner wall of small intestine has finger like projections called villi which are richly supplied with blood vessels and these take absorbed food to all the cells of the body.
- The unabsorbed food is sent to the large intestine where more villi absorb water from this undigested material and the rest of the material is excreted from the body by ****.
- The excretion of waste materials by **** is regulated by the **** sphincters.
