sorry by mistake used 2k - 9 in place of 2k - 3.
So, solve same by same method.

Yogita Ingle 6 years, 10 months ago

5, (2k -9), 9 is an ap
d = (2k -9) - 5 = 2k-9 - 5 = 2k - 14 .... (i)
also d = 9 - (2k-9) = 9 - 2k - 9 = - 2k ...... (ii)
From (i) and (ii)
2k - 14 = -2k
2k + 2k = 14
4k = 14
k = 14/4 = 7/2

So , According to the question 1/x + 1/x-6 = 1/4 => x-6+x / x(x-6) = 1/4 => 2x-6 / x^2-6x = 1/4 => 8x-24 = x^2-6x => x^2-14x+24 = 0 => (x^2-12x)+(-2x+24) = 0 => (x-12) (x-2) = 0 => x = 12 , 2 if the time taken by B to complete the work is 2 days then the time taken by A to complete the work will be -4 days which is not possible. => time taken by B to complete the work is 12 days .
