Then TSA =CSA+ {tex}2\pi r^2{/tex}

231=2/3*231+{tex}2\pi r^2{/tex}

{tex}2\pi r^2{/tex} = 231-154=77

r2=1/2*77*22/7=11*11, r=11 cm

Now CSA={tex}2\pi rh{/tex}=2/3*231=154

then hypo=x+1

Let altitude =h

also hypo=2h+3

h=(hypo-3)/2------(1)

=(x+1-3)/2=(x-2)/2

Now Hypo²=h²+x²

(x+1)²=1/4*(x-2)² +x²

{tex}\begin{array}{l}4(x+1)^2=(x-2)^2+4x^2\\4x^2+8x+4=x^2-4x+4+4x^2\\x^2-12x=0\\x(x-12)=0\\x=0\;or\;12\\\end{array}{/tex}

The side can not be zero

so x= base =12 cm

Hypo=12+1=13 cm

h=(13-3)/2= 5 cm

Width=15.5-2.0.75=15.5-1.5=14 m

so area A =20.5 x 14 = 287 m²

Now width of the carpet = 82 cm =0.82 m

We know that, If the quadratic equation ax²+bx+c=0 whose roots are equal then it's deteminant is equal to zero.
