- Invading Russia might be Hitler's biggest mistake but there are other important miscalculations. Some are possibly more egregious than Operation Barbarossa.
- He declared war on the United States, the single greatest industrial power in the world. The decision borders on the stupid. One historian says Hitler made this decision in a moment of absent mindedness. It is ironic that Churchill's greatest Christmas present came from Hitler. Churchill said once the US was on board he knew Hitler was finished. Germany declares war on the United States — History.com This Day in History — 12/11/1941 The entire population of the United States, under threat from the Japanese as well, became single minded in their pursuit of victory over both aggressors. For the first time ever women entered the workforce in huge numbers and proved once and for all they could do a man's work and do it well.

Minimum Support Price (MSP) : It is the pre-announced price at which the government purchases food grains from the farmers in order to create a buffer stock.
The Minimum Support Price is declared by the government every year before the growing season. This provides incentives to the farmers for raising the production of the crops.
The rising Minimum Support Prices of rice and wheat have induced farmers to divert land from the production of coarse grains, the staple food of the poor, to the production of these crops. The rising Minimum Support Prices have raised the maintenance cost of procuring food grains.

Deforestation means cutting down the trees to a large extent be it forests, any barren land or trees we see on our way to school every day. Natural forests are being destructed to use the land for cultivation, building houses, factories, logging, making space for cattle grazing, extraction of oil, mining, construction of dams or to obtain wood for making furniture and using it as fuel.
- Deforestation leads to the emission of greenhouse gas.
- Cutting down on trees leads to clearance of forests and so soil erosion occurs.
- Deforestation alters land and so that many of the plants and animals do not survive.
- Deforestation leads to land erosion because the trees maintain the surface of the mountains. The water level of the rivers increases suddenly, causing floods.

The Forest Laws enforced by the British laid many restrictions on the villagers depended on the forests and the tribals alike.
The Forest Act of 1865 was amended in 1875 and the Forest Act of 1875 divided the forests into three categories: reserved, protected and village forests. The villagers could only collect produce from the village forests and not from the protected or reserved forests. The best forests were categorized as reserved forests and forests under threat of destruction were under the protected forests category. The natives were not allowed to collect forest produce like fire wood, honey, resin from these forests even for domestic use let only for commercial purposes. So, in deed this Act of 1875 was a curse for the native villagers.
The Forest Laws also forbade tribals from collecting forest produce and this was the means of livelihood for most tribals. Not only the adivasis were no match for the British in strength and power, there were no organised struggle protesting environmental issues. During the British, the struggle was localised and so it was put to an end with force.

1. Legislative Functions:The Parliament makes laws on all subjects listed in the Union List. It can also make laws on subjects listed under the Concurrent List. In case there is any conflict or overlapping in the provisions existing in the Union and State enactment, the Union law prevails. In cases when an emergency has been declared, the Union Parliament can also make laws on subjects that fall within the State List.
2. Financial Control: Union Parliament has exclusive powers to provide ways and means through which revenue has to be raised for public services. To that end it imposes taxes and also ensures that the money sanctioned for expenditure to various departments of the government has been spent for the authorized purposes.
3. Providing and exercising control over Cabinet: Our Parliamentary system blends the legislative and the executive organs of the State in as much as the executive power is wielded by a group of Members of the Legislature who command majority in the Lok Sabha.
4. Critical Assessment of the Work of the Cabinet: The Parliament provides the forum through which is ensured that the Cabinet remains in power only as long as it commands majority support in the Lok Sabha which comprises elected representatives of the people. It is one of the most important functions of the Parliament to bring about discussions and critical assessments of the performance of the government departments.
5. Role of opposition: The existence of opposition also ensures that the nation gets to know about the alternative points of view.
6. An organ of information: Parliament is the most powerful organ so far information about the functioning of the government is concerned. The information provided in the Houses is authoritative and Ministers are bound to provide information on matters of government when so desired by the member.
