Like the British in India, the Dutch in Java were driven to manage forests because they wanted to exploit colonial forest wood for ship-building and railways.
(i) Forest laws were enacted in Java restricting villagers access to forests.
(ii) Wood could only be cut for specified purposes like making river boats, or constructing houses from specific forests under close supervision.
(iii) Villagers were punished for grazing cattle in young stands, transporting wood without permit or travelling on forest roads with horse, carts and cattle.

The Judicial system in India is single integrated and organised in a pyramidical form.
At the apex is the Supreme Court, which is followed by High Courts at the state level, District Courts at the District level and Lok Adalats at the village and panchayat level.
All the courts are under the control and guidance of the Supreme Court. The decisions of the Supreme Court are binding on the other courts.
The judiciary of India is a powerful and independent institution. It is a mechanism for the legal redressal of disputes and prosecution of legal offenders as well. Apart from this, the judiciary at the higher level also interprets the Constitution and resolves disputes between the centre and states as well as between different states. It protects the fundamental rights guaranteed by the Constitution and is the mechanism to seek recourse to constitutional remedies. It also strikes down any law that contravenes the Constitution in letter and spirit. Along with the legislature and the executive, it is one of the three pillars of Indian democracy.

Films were made to create hatred for the Jews. The film, ‘The Eternal Jew’, showed the Jews with flowing beards and dressed in kaftans. The Jews were referred to as vermin, rats and pests. The Nazi propaganda compared the Jews to rodents.
Orthodox Jews were stereotyped as killers of Christ and money lenders. Stereotypes about Jews were even popularised through maths classes. Children were taught to hate the Jews.
The Nazi propaganda against the Jews was so effective that people felt anger and hatred surge inside them when they saw someone who looked like a Jew.

Physical Capital is the variety of inputs required at every stage during production.
Physical Capital is of two types:
(i) Fixed Capital: Tools, machines and building etc. are called Fixed Capitals. Tools and Machines ranged from very simple tools such as farmer's plough to sophisticated machines such as generators, computers, etc. They are called fixed as they can be used for many years.
(ii) Working Capital: production requires a variety of raw materials such as the yarn used by the weaver and the clay used by the potter. Also, some money is always required during production to make payments and buy other necessary items. In this way, raw materials and money in hand is called working capital.

The nomadic community that moved from one place for their animals (like goat and sheep) is called as pastoral nomads. Their main features are:
1. They had to keep moving from place to place and had to decide when and where to move otherwise they, along with their animals would starve.
2. They calculated their timings of movement so that green grasses and nutritious forage are available for their herds.
3. They combined different activities like herding cultivation and trading etc. for their survival.
4. They had to make an estimate of the terrain they had to pass during their seasonal movements and also to know where they could find both pastures and water for themselves as well as their animals.

Women in Nazi Germany were to have a very specific role. Hitler was very clear about this. This role was that they should be good mothers bringing up children at home while their husbands worked.
In Nazi Germany women were considered to be different from men. The Nazis did not believe in equal rights for men and women. They felt that equal rights would destroy the society. Young women were told to become good mothers, look after the home and rear pure – blooded Aryan children.
Hitler also introduced awards and medals for women who gave birth to more than one pure Aryan child.

The Nazis believed that the Aryans had the most "pure blood" of all the people on earth. The ideal Aryan had pale skin, blond hair and blue eyes.
Non-Aryans came to be seen as impure and even evil. Hitler believed that Aryan superiority was being threatened particularly by the Jews. But a league table of 'races' was created with the Aryans at the top and with Jews, Gypsies and black people at the bottom. These 'inferior' people were seen as a threat to the purity and strength of the German nation.
