Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is the total sum of the value of the final goods and services of the Primary, Secondary and Tertiary sectors of the economy of a country produced during a year.
The counting of the various goods and services for calculating GDP can he understood by the following example
Wheat and Hour are intermediate goods used for making final products like bread and biscuits. Intermediate products should not be counted in the figure of GDP. Biscuits and breads are the final products prepared using flour and other ingredients like sugar, salt, oil etc.
Only the final products are reaching the actual consumer. The value of the intermediate products is already counted in the final products and if this is again counted, it will lead to double counting, causing an error in the estimation of GDP.

This is the government by the people, for the people and of the people. 3. Independent judiciary is the sole characteristic of democracy.

Gaurav Seth 5 years, 8 months ago

The three essential features of democracy can be listed as follows
(i) Democracy is a form of government in which rulers are elected by the people on the principle of one person, one vote.
(ii)  Democracy must be based on  free and fair elections, where those who are currently in power have a fair chance of losing. Voters should have a choice of candidates.
(iii)In a democracy, the final decision-making power must rest with those elected by the people.

The Outbreak of the Revolution In France, the monarch didn’t have the power to impose taxes. They had to call a meeting of the Estates-General, a political body to which the three estates sent their representatives, to pass proposals for new taxes. Louis XVI, on 5 May 1789, called an assembly to pass proposals for new taxes. Representatives from the first and second estates were present and the third estate was represented by its prosperous and educated members. According to the principle each estate had one vote. But, representatives from the third estate demanded each member would have one vote. The demand was rejected so members of the third estate walked out to protest. They swore not to disperse till a constitution drafted for France that would limit the powers of the monarch. Due to the severe winter, bread price rose and people had to spend hours in long queues. Rumours spread that the lords of the manor hired bands of brigands to destroy the ripe crops. In fear, peasants started looting hoarded grain and burnt down documents containing records of manorial dues. Nobles fled from their homes. Louis XVI accorded recognition to the National Assembly and accepted the principle that his powers would from now on be checked by a constitution. The Assembly passed a decree abolishing the feudal system of obligations and taxes on 4 August 1789. Tithes were abolished and lands owned by the Church were confiscated.

Yogita Ingle 5 years, 8 months ago

n order to pass the proposal to raise taxes Louis XVI called an assembly of the Estates General. On 5 May 1789, 300 representatives from each of the first and second estate and 600 from the third estate, a total 1200 representatives, gathered in a splendid hall for the assembly. Representatives of first and second estates were seated in two rows while representatives of third estate had to stand at the back. Representatives of third estate were educated and more prosperous and they believed to represent the whole people of France. Peasants and labours were not allowed in that assembly; however about 40000 letters regarding their grievances were carried by representatives of third estate.

According to principle of the monarch each estate had one vote. Louis XVI wanted to apply the same practice this time also. But representatives of third estate did not agree on this, they wanted voting assembly as a whole and wanted each of the representatives to have only one vote. Louis XVI rejected this new proposal. As a result, all the representatives of the third estate walked out of the assembly in protest.

Democracy may not have a single definition. A country becomes democratic when it follows all principles of democracy. These are:

  • Democracy is a form of Government in which the rulers are elected by the people.
  • In a democracy, all major decisions are made by the elected leaders.
  • In a democracy, free and fair elections should be held regularly.
  • Democracy should be based on the principle of one person, one vote and one value.
  • There is Rule of Law and Respect for Rights

The outcome of India’s elections speaks for itself:

The ruling parties routinely lose elections in India both at the national and state level. In fact in every two out of the three elections held in the last fifteen years, the ruling party lost. It proves that unfair practices are not used by the ruling parties.

In the US, an incumbent or ‘sitting’ elected representative rarely loses an election. In India about half of the sitting MPs or MLAs lose elections.

Candidates who are known to have spent a lot of money on ‘buying votes’ and those with known criminal connections often lose elections.

Except a very few disputed elections, the electoral outcomes are usually accepted as ‘people’s verdict’ by the defeated party.

The constitution makers were worried that in an open electoral competition, certain weaker sections may not stand a good chances to get elected to the Lok Sabha and the State Legislative Assemblies. That would make our democracy less representative and less democratic, so they thought of the provision of special system of reserved constituencies for the weaker sections.

hallenges to free and fair elections in India are as follows:

(i) Candidates and parties with a lot of money may not be sure of their victory but they do enjoy a big and unfair advantage over smaller parties and independents.

(ii) In some parts of the country, candidates with criminal connection have been able to secure a 'ticket' from major parties.

(iii) Some families tend to dominate the political parties; tickets are distributed to relatives from these families.

(iv) Very often, elections offer little choice to ordinary citizens as both the major parties are similar to each other in their policies and practices.

(v) Smaller parties and independent candidates suffer a huge disadvantage as compared to the bigger parties.

Countries List[show] Continent Asia The Himalayas, or Himalaya (/ˌhɪməˈleɪə, hɪˈmɑːləjə/), (Sanskrit: himá (हिम, "snow") and ā-laya (आलय, "abode, receptacle, dwelling")), is a mountain range in Asia separating the plains of the Indian subcontinent from the Tibetan Plateau. The range has many of Earth's highest peaks, including the highest, Mount Everest in (Nepal-China)border. The Himalayas include over fifty mountains exceeding 7,200 m (23,600 ft) in elevation, including ten of the fourteen 8,000-metre peaks. By contrast, the highest peak outside Asia (Aconcagua, in the Andes) is 6,961 m (22,838 ft) tall.[1] Lifted by the subduction of the Indian tectonic plate under the Eurasian Plate, the Himalayan mountain range runs west-northwest to east-southeast in an arc 2,400 km (1,500 mi) long.[2] Its western anchor, Nanga Parbat, lies just south of the northernmost bend of the Indus river. Its eastern anchor, Namcha Barwa, is just west of the great bend of the Yarlung Tsangpo River (upper stream of the Brahmaputra River). The Himalayan range is bordered on the northwest by the Karakoram and the Hindu Kush ranges. To the north, the chain is separated from the Tibetan Plateau by a 50–60 km (31–37 mi) wide tectonic valley called the Indus-Tsangpo Suture.[3] Towards the south the arc of the Himalaya is ringed by the very low Indo-Gangetic Plain.[4] The range varies in width from 350 km (220 mi) in the west (Pakistan) to 150 km (93 mi) in the east (Arunachal Pradesh).[5] The Himalayas are inhabited by 52.7 million people,[5] and are spread across five countries: Bhutan, China, India, Nepal and Pakistan. The Hindu Kush range in Afghanistan[6] and Hkakabo Razi in Myanmar are normally not included, but they are both (with the addition of Bangladesh) part of the greater Hindu Kush Himalayan (HKH) river system.[7][full citation needed

The Kerenskii Government became unpopular in Russia due to the following reasons : The winter of 1917 was very cold as there had been exceptional frost and heavy snow. Conditions in the capital Petrograd were grim. The government failed to provide food and its shortage was deeply felt in the workers quarters. During the First World War, Russian casualties by 1917 had risen to over 7 million. As the Russian army retreated, they destroyed crops and buildings to prevent the enemy from being able to live off the land. This destruction led to over 3 million refugees in Russia. The situation discredited the government and the ruling Tsar. Soldier did not wish to fight the war. Peasants demanded redistribution of land, workers demanded control over industries and the demand of equal status by non-Russian nationalities were not met by the Kerenskii Government.
