Seasonal unemployment and disguised unemployment

Yunus Khan 5 years, 2 months ago

Types of unemployment found in India are: (i) Disguised unemployment: In disguised unemployment, people appear to be employed while actually they are not adding to the productivity. This usually happens among family members engaged in agricultural activity. (ii) Seasonal unemployment: Seasonal unemployment happens when people are not able to find jobs during some months of the year. Agriculture in India is not a full time occupation. It is seasonal. This type of unemployment is usually found in agriculture. (iii) Educated unemployment: It has become a common phenomenon in urban areas. Many youth with matriculation, graduation and post graduation degrees are not able to find jobs. A study showed that unemployment of graduates and post graduates has increased faster than among matriculate youths.

1)  disguised unemployment - when more ppl. are engaged in an activity, than the no. of ppl. required for that. for eg. an agricultural field requires 4 laborers  but ppl. engaged in the work are 6, then the unemployment for 2 laborers is called disguised unemployment.
2)  seasonal unemployment- it refers to an unemployment where a no. of persons r not able to find jobs during some months of the yr!
3) under employment - it refers to an employment situation that is insufficient in some important way for the worker, relative to a standard.

The mechanism of monsoons are discussed below:

(i)The differential heating and cooling of land and water creates low pressure on the landmass of India while the seas around experience comparatively high pressure.

(ii)The shift of the position of Inter Tropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) in summer, over the Ganga plain (this is the equatorial trough normally positioned about 5°N of the equator – also known as the monsoontrough during the monsoon season).

(iii)The presence of the high-pressure area, east of Madagascar, approximately at 20°S over the Indian Ocean. The intensity and position of this high-pressure area affects the Indian Monsoon.

(iv)The Tibetan plateau gets intensely heated during summer, which results in strong vertical air currents and the formation of high pressure over the plateau at about 9 km above sea level.

(v)The movement of the westerly jet stream to the north of the Himalayas and the presence of the tropical easterly jet stream over the Indian peninsula during summer.

Hitler was appointed the Chancellor of Germany in January 1933. His rise to power was the result of many factors including the impact of the Depression, hyperinflation, unemployment, the weaknesses of Weimar democracy, humiliations faced by the imposition of the Treaty of Versailles and the strengths of the Nazi party. However, the Balkan Wars, which took place around 1911-12 before the onset of the first world war, were not the reason behind the popularity of Hitler.

French society in the eighteen century was divided into three estates, only the members of third estate paid taxes. About 60 per cent of the land was owned by nobles, the Church and other richer members of the third estate. The members of the first two estate, that is, the clergy and the nobility, enjoyed certain privileges by birth. The most important of these was exemption from paying taxes to the sate. The nobles further enjoyed privileges. These included feudal dues, which they extracted from the peasants.

Collectivisation was the process whereby individuals land and farms were put together to form a collective farm of a Kolkhoz, this was then run by a committee were all of the animals and tools were handed over. Everything was to be shared there including the produce of the farm.

Consequences:
The destruction of the life stock had disastrous consequences and led to terrible famine. It was estimated that 16million people died between 1931 and 1933. Although production levels had increased, many peasants lived in extreme poverty. The collectivisation theory was very simple.

Farmer who has less than 2 hectares of land

Aadi Malhotra 5 years, 2 months ago

A small farmer is a farmer who owns less than 2 hectares (1 hectare= 100 meter x 100 meter) of land. Small farmers often have to take loans from Medium and Large Farmers, Banks and Moneylenders. A good example of a story of a small farmer will be the story of Savita from NCERT: "Savita is a small farmer. She plans to cultivate wheat on her 1 hectare of land. Besides seeds, fertilizers and pesticides, she needs cash to buy water and repair her farm instruments. She estimates that the working capital itself would cost a minimum of Rs 3,000. She doesn’t have the money, so she decides to borrow from Tejpal Singh, a large farmer. Tejpal Singh agrees to give Savita the loan at an interest rate of 24 per cent for four months, which is a very high interest rate. Savita also has to promise to work on his field as a farm labourer during the harvest season at Rs 100 per day. As you can tell, this wage is quite low. Savita knows that she will have to work very hard to complete harvesting on her own field, and then work as a farm labourer for Tejpal Singh. The harvest time is a very busy time. As a mother of three children she has a lot of household responsibilities. Savita agrees to these tough conditions as she knows getting a loan is difficult for a small farmer." The above extract from the NCERT Economics book for Class 9 shows the difficulties and hardships faced by small farmers.

Democracy is a system of rule by laws, not individuals. In a democracy, the rule of law protects the rights of citizens, maintains order, and limits the power of government. All citizens are equal under the law. No one may be discriminated against on the basis of their race, religion, ethnic group, or gender.
