Under the system of "subsidiary alliance"-

(i)Indian rulers were not allowed to have their independent armed forces.

(ii)They were to be protected by the Company, but had to pay for the "subsidiary forces" that the Company was supposed to maintain for the purpose of this protection.

(iii)If the Indian rulers failed to make the payment, the part of their territory was taken away as penalty.

The states which had to lose their territories on this ground were Awadh and Hyderabad.

Describe briefly about animal husbandry? (3) Ans. a. Animal husbandry is the branch of agriculture concerned with animals that are raised for meat, fibre, milk, eggs, or other products. b. It includes day-to-day care, selective breeding and the raising of livestock, like plants, animals also provide us with large variety of food items for which they are reared domestically or commercially. c. They are provided with proper food, shelter and care, this is called animal husbandry. 7. Why do you think removal of weeds is essential? Write any one method to control weeds. (2 + 1) Ans. Removal of weeds is essential because they compete with the crops for water, nutrients and other basic necessities which affects the growth and results in low yield of crops. Give four examples of fertilizers. (2) Ans. Urea, ammonium sulphate, super phosphate, potash, NPK etc. What do you mean by the term irrigation? (2) Ans. The supply of water to crops at appropriate intervals is called irrigation. The time and frequency of irrigation varies from crop to crop, soil to soil and season to season. If a handful of seeds are given to you, how will you separate healthy seeds from damaged ones? (2) Ans. Take a beaker half filled with water and put some seeds into it and stir well, wait for some time. You will observe that some seeds sink in water while some seeds float on water, damaged seeds become hollow and lighter and thus they float on water.

Thunderstorms are most likely in the spring and summer months and during the afternoon and evening hours, but they can occur year-round and at all hours. Along the Gulf Coast and across the southeastern and western states, most thunderstorms occur during the afternoon. Thunderstorms can bring heavy rains (which can cause flash flooding), strong winds, hail, lightning, and tornadoes. Severe thunderstorms can cause extensive damage to homes and property.

Soil conservation means conserving soil from getting eroded and it is needed because the first layer of soil means topsoil is very firtle and humus rich and if it will get eroded the plant will not grow well on 2nd layer . That is my answer ?
