Humus (or humous) is the organic matter in the soil. It is made of dead parts of plants and animals. Humus takes in water and has plenty of nutrients. Nitrogen is the most important. Plants put roots into the soil to get the water and nutrients. Humus is good for plants because it is like a sponge. The dark color of humus (usually black or dark brown) helps to warm up cold soils in the spring.

Humus is the dark organic matter that forms in soil when dead plant and animal matter decays. Humus has many nutrients that improve the health of soil, nitrogen being the most important. The ratio of carbon to nitrogen (C:N) of humus is 10:1

In soil science, humus (derived in 1790–1800 from the Latin humus for earth, ground[1]) denominates the fraction of soil organic matter that is amorphous and without the "cellular cake structure characteristic of plants, micro-organisms or animals"

The sun was born about 4.6 billion years ago. Many scientists think the sun and the rest of the solar system formed from a giant, rotating cloud of gas and dust known as the solar nebula. As the nebula collapsed because of its gravity, it spun faster and flattened into a disk. Most of the material was pulled toward the center to form the sun. The sun has enough nuclear fuel to stay much as it is now for another 5 billion years. After that, it will swell to become a red giant. Eventually, it will shed its outer layers, and the remaining core will collapse to become a white dwarf. Slowly, this will fade, to enter its final phase as a dim, cool theoretical object sometimes known as a black dwarf.

Glutathione (GSH) is an antioxidant in plants, animals, fungi, and some bacteria and archaea. Glutathione is capable of preventing damage to important cellular components caused by reactive oxygen species such as free radicals, peroxides, lipid peroxides, and heavy metals.[2] It is a tripeptide with a gamma peptide linkage between the carboxyl group of the glutamate side chain and cysteine. The carboxyl group of the cysteine residue is attached by normal peptide linkage to glycine.

Chloroplasts /ˈklɔːrəˌplæsts, -plɑːsts/[1][2] are organelles that conduct photosynthesis, where the photosynthetic pigment chlorophyll captures the energy from sunlight, converts it, and stores it in the energy-storage molecules ATP and NADPH while freeing oxygen from water in plant and algal cells. They then use the ATP and NADPH to make organic molecules from carbon dioxide in a process known as the Calvin cycle. Chloroplasts carry out a number of other functions, including fatty acid synthesis, much amino acid synthesis, and the immune response in plants. -------------------------------------------------------------chloroplast is a type of organelle known as a plastid, characterized by its two membranes and a high concentration of chlorophyll. Other plastid types, such as the leucoplast and the chromoplast, contain little chlorophyll and do not carry out photosynthesis.

Plants, especially the green ones prepare their own food by a process called photosynthesis. They are therefore known as autotrophs and primary producers in the food web. All green plants comprise a specialized structure known as chloroplast, and the green pigments called chlorophyll within the cell and are responsible for the synthesis of food.

Various methods of asexual reproduction are:

i. Binary Fission - Fission in which the parent cell divides to form two similar daughter cells. Example - Amoeba.

ii. Multiple Fission - Fission in which the parent cell divides to produce more than two daughter cells. Example - Plasmodium.

iii. Budding - The reproductive method in which an organism produces an outgrowth on its body surface, which then matures and develops into a new individual. Example - Hydra.

iv. Spore Formation - Spore formation is an asexual mode of reproduction found in certain multicellular organisms like Rhizopus. The thick walled spores have the capacity to develop into new individuals under suitable conditions.

The female silk moth lays hundreds of eggs on the mulberry leaves. The larvae that hatch out of the eggs are called silk worms or caterpillars. The caterpillars feed on mulberry leaves vigorously. When the silkworms are ready to enter the next stage of its development called pupa it stops feeding and its salivary glands secretes a fibre around the pupa to hold itself. The fibre is made up of protein called fibroin which hardens on exposure to air. Then it swings its head from side to side in the form of figure of eight forming a cover around pupa. This covering is known as cocoon. The further development of the pupa into moth continues inside the cocoon. The most common silk moth is the mulberry silk moth.

An ant’s life is peaceful because each does it`s work intelligently and bravely and never fights with other members of it`s group. Each member has a designated place to stay and a definite work to do. a soldier ant never goes out to search for food and similarly a worker never enters the domain of a soldier ant. No worker or soldier has ever harmed any grub. Each one loyally and diligently does his duty and relentlessly carries on with their work peacefully. They know sharing and contribution and do not interfere in each other’s work.
