Leaves are vital to the survival of plants. They help plants in a variety of ways, including producing food and oxygen through photosynthesis, balancing water loss, regulating gas exchange, and transporting the products of photosynthesis.
A leaf has two main parts:
(1) Petiole- the stalk that supports a leaf in a plant and attaches the leaf blade to the stem.
(2) Lamina- the green flat part of a leaf that is specialized for photosynthesis. The lamina contains the following parts:
(i) Veins- the lines on the green flat part in a leaf that provide support for the leaf and transport both water and food.
(ii) Midrib- The central, thick, linear vein that runs along the length of a leaf is called midrib.

The hot water kills the leaf and the alcohol breaks down the chlorophyll, taking the green color out of the leaf. When you put iodine on the leaves, one of them will turn blue-black and the other will be a reddish-brown. Iodine is an indicator that turns blue-black in the presence of starch.

Carbohydrates, proteins, nutrients, minerals, vitamins these component of food

Yogita Ingle 5 years, 7 months ago

The main components of foods are carbohydrates, protein, fats, vitamins and minerals. These are called nutrients.

Carbohydrates: Carbohydrates are also called energy giving food. It is the main sources of energy.

Protein: Protein helps in body growth and repairs the tissues so it is also called body building food. We get protein from milk, eggs, meat, fish and all kinds of pulse.

Fat: Fats are made up of carbon, hydrogen and oxygen. Butter, ghee, milk, egg-yolk, nuts and cooking oils are the major sources of fat in our food.
Vitamins: Vitamins are complex organic compounds which are essential for the growth and maintenance of our body. It does not provide energy.

Minerals: Minerals are required by our body in very small quantities. Iron, Iodine, calcium, phosphorus, sodium and potassium are common minerals.

The word integer originated from the Latin word “Integer” which means whole. It is a special set of whole numbers comprised of zero, positive numbers and negative numbers and denoted by the letter Z.
Examples of Integers – 1, 6, 15.
Fractions, decimals, and percents are out of this basket. Examples – -2.4, 3/4, 90.6.

Integers have 5 main properties of operation which are:

  • Closure Property:

    Among the various properties of integers, closure property under addition and subtraction states that the sum or difference of any two integers will always be an integer i.e. if x and y are any two integers, x + y and x − y will also be an integer.

    Example : 3 – 4 = 3 + (−4) = −1;

    (–5) + 8 = 3,

  • Associative Property:

    The associative property of addition and multiplication states that the way of grouping of numbers doesn’t matter; the result will be same. One can group numbers in any way but the answer will remain same. Parenthesis can be done irrespective of the order of terms. Let x, y and z be any three integers, then

    ⇒ x + (y + z) = (x + y) +z

    ⇒ x × (y × z) = (x × y) × z

    Example : 1 + (2 + (-3)) = 0 = (1 + 2) + (−3);

  • Commutative Property: The commutative property of addition and multiplication states that the order of terms doesn’t matter, the result will be the same. Whether it is addition or multiplication, swapping of terms will not change the sum or product. Suppose, x and y are any two integers, then
    ⇒ x + y = y + x
    ⇒ x × y = y × x
    Example : 4 + (−6) = −2 = (−6) + 4;

  • Distributive Property:The distributive property explains the distributing ability of operation over another mathematical operation within a bracket. It can be either distributive property of multiplication over addition or distributive property of multiplication over subtraction. Here integers are added or subtracted first and then multiplied or multiply first with each number within the bracket and then added or subtracted. This can be represented for any integers x, y and z as:

    ⇒ x × (y + z) = x × y + x × z

    ⇒ x × (y − z) = x × y − x × z

    Example: −5 (2 + 1) = −15 = (−5 × 2) + (−5 × 1)

  • Identity Property:

    Among the various properties of integers, additive identity property states that when any integer is added to zero it will give the same number. Zero is called additive identity. For any integer x,

    x + 0 = x = 0 + x

    The multiplicative identity property for integers says that whenever a number is multiplied by the number 1 it will give the integer itself as the product. Therefore, the integer 1 is called the multiplicative identity for a number. For any integer x,

    x × 1 = x = 1 × x

    If any integer multiplied by 0, the product will be zero:

    x × 0 = 0 =0 × x

    If any integer multiplied by -1, the product will be opposite of the number:

    x × (−1) = −x = (−1) × x

A natural number is an integer greater than 0. ... For example, if you are timing something in seconds, you would use natural numbers (usually starting with 1). When written, natural numbers do not have a decimal point (since they are integers), but large natural numbers may include commas, e.g. 1,000 and 234,567,890.

In the absence of green plants, there would not be the process of photosynthesis. Besides oxygen which is essential for the survival of all living organisms is produced during photosynthesis. Thus, we can say that life would be impossible on the earth in the absence of photosynthesis.

Cross Pollination: When anthers from a different flower are transferred to the stigma; it is called cross pollination. The flowers can be on the same plant or on different plants. Cross pollination is the norm in most of the plants. Plants need help from various agents of pollination to carry out cross pollination. Wind, insects, birds and other animals play the role of agent of pollination.

Plants prepare their food by using raw materials like water, carbon dioxide and minerals.

The process of utilization of food by a living organism to obtain energy is called nutrition.

  1. Autotrophs or Autotrophic: - Plants that have chlorophyll trap the energy from the sun and prepare their own food. Such nutrition wherein the food is prepared by the organisms itself is called autotrophic nutrition. The organisms capable of preparing their own food are called autotrophs. All green plants are Autotrophs (Auto means self and trophos means nourishment). They prepare their own food by a process called photosynthesis.
  2. Heterotrophs or heterophobic: - Heterotrophic organisms are those who obtain food from other organisms. Since these organisms depend on other organisms for their food, they are called consumers. All animals and non-green plants like fungi come under this category.Organisms that follow the heterotrophic mode of nutrition are called heterotrophs.

Carbon monoxide poisoning is often called a "silent killer" because this gas is not detectable to any of the body’s senses. It’s odourless, colourless and tasteless. It’s released when fuel such as oil, propane, gasoline or even wood is burned in small engines, lanterns, fireplaces, stoves, grills, gas ranges, furnaces, cars, and trucks. When equipment that burns these fuels is properly ventilated, carbon monoxide poisoning is not a problem. But if the equipment or ventilation system is faulty, or if outdoor equipment is used in an enclosed area, toxic levels of this gas can build up quickly, creating the risk of poisoning. Concentrated carbon monoxide is poisonous and life-threatening to those who inhale it.
