A stray cat that the children had found, had been named Mahendravarman Pallava Poonai, M P Poonai or Mahendran for short. Ravi felt it was a descendant of the emblem of Pallava kings as its fur looked like a lion’s mane. He was sure it was of the same family as Mahabalipuram’s ‘rishi-cat’ whose statue he had seen on a school trip there

The East India Company was an English company formed for the exploitation of trade with East and Southeast Asia and India. Incorporated by royal charter on December 31, 1600, it was started as a monopolistic trading body so that England could participate in the East Indian spice trade. The office of the Accountant General, Military Department, was created in April 1864. In 1865, the Government recognized this position as the Head of the Military Accounts Department. In 1922, office of Military Accountant General was reorginised post-war and 1 MAG, 2 Dy.MAGs, 2 Asstt. MAGs and 100 Accountants and clerks were sanctioned. Office of MAG then comprised of 8 sections viz. Record, AN, Audit, Accounts, Estimate, Pay, Foreign Claims and Inspection.
