The narrator got the address of Mrs. Dorling from her late mother. Mrs. Dorling had taken away all her mother’s valuable possessions and promised to keep them safe during the half of the first world war.  

Mrs. Dorling was really cautious while opening the door. She even refused to recognize her. When the narrator said that she was Mrs. S’s daughter, She held her hand on the door as though she was preventing it from opening any further. She was wearing the narrator’s mother’s green knitted cardigan and It proved that the narrator was at the right place. Mrs. Dorling was not hoping that anyone from the family would return back. She was not happy and didn't even bother to welcome the narrator in nor did she mention about her mother's belongings. She
