Pancreas is an elongated yellow colour 2nd largest endocrine gland .Present at the loop of deodanum . Pancreas is a hetrocrine or a composite gland . The Endocrine part of pancreas is made up of 1-2million of epithelial cells called as islets of Langerhans (discovered by Langerhans in 1869) scattered in the connective tissue between acini . The endocrine part consists of 1-2% of the pancreatic mass. Pancreatic hormone - i.e. islets of Langerhans is made up of three types of cells. • Alpha cell - also called as oxyphiles . It secretes glycagon . • Bita cells - secretes insulin . • Gamma cells - these are the precursors of alpha and Bita cells. I know its too long but indeed important .
