The halo effect is a type of cognitive bias in which our overall impression of a person influences how we feel and think about their character. Essentially, your overall impression of a person impacts your evaluations of that person's specific traits.

Halo effect displays certain biases that the raters have about the person. It may influence their judgement on some of his or her other traits as well. For example: An intelligent person may also be considered hardworking (if you like someone all traits will look +ve and if you dislike somebody all traits will be -ve) MIDDLE CATEGORY BIAS: Raters try to place people in the middle of the rating scale avoiding the extreme score. EXTREME CATEGORY BIAS: Raters give extreme score to individual on rating scale, avoiding the middle category.
