Grignard reagents are very reactive. In the presence of moisture, they react to give alkanes. Therefore, Grignard reagents should be prepared under anhydrous conditions.Grignard reagents are very reactive with water.They can absorb the moisture present even in the apparatus and react to form alkanes.They can also react with the moisture present in the reactants .Therefore Grignard reagents are prepared under anhydrous conditions.
