Definition:- When an abstract idea (for instance, greed, envy, freedom, liberty) is expressed through a person or a thing, it is called an allegory. An allegorical story has two meanings, one literal and one symbolic. Explanation:- It was used to personify the nations in the nineteenth century for visualising the nation among people. The female figures becomes the allegory of a nation because females are the one who sacrifices more. These figure were not real person but it contained some idea like Liberty, Justice and the Republic. Examples:- Christened Marianne was the allegory of France. Germania was the allegory of German nation.
