Satpal walks 2/3km from a place P, towards east and then from there 12/7 km towards west. Where will he be now from P?

Given: Satpal walks 2/3 km from a place p towards east and then, from there 12/7 km towards west.

To find: Satpal's position from p.

Solution:

East and west are two opposite directions.
So, Satpal walks towards the east and then, walks back towards the west by covering the distance travelled earlier plus some more distance towards the west.
To find his position with respect to p, the two distances travelled must be subtracted.
Two fractions are subtracted by making the denominators equal using L.C.M..

Therefore, Satpal's position from p is 4/7 km.
