1. Indian merchants and industrialists wanted protection against import of foreign goods and a rupee-sterling foreign exchange ratio inorder to discourage imports. 2. Most businessman wanted to see Swaraj as a time when colonial restrictions on business would no longer exist and local industries and trade would flourish without any constraints. 3. So they gave financial assistance and refused to buy or sell important goods during the movement. 4. They formed the IICC in 1920 and FICCI in 1927. Led by prominent industralists like GD Birla and Purshottamdas Thakurdas, merchants and industrialists supported the CDM
