metal is good conductor of heat like iron, copper, zinc, lead etc. is known as metal. non metal is bad conductor of heat like carbon, sulphur, oxygen, hydrogen etc. is known as non metal

While , non metals are electronegative elements. They had the tendency to either gain electrons or share it to attain stability by making electronic configuration like it's nearest inert gas
