The major challenge faced by jute industry are:

The expanding market of synthetic fibre.
India is facing high cost production and stiff international competition, especially from Bangladesh, and international market like Brazil and Philippines are also giving serious challenges to India.
Continuous decline in the demand for jute due to an increase in the demand of its substitutes is another major problem faced by this industry.
