We use shunt resister to free up galvanometer from flowing more current as galvanometer measure only small unit of current so in case of this we use a resister i. e parrallel to the galvanometer resister in the circuit to detect the current in galvanometer

When a moving coil galvanometer is connected in parallels with a shunt resistor, the galvanometer can be used to find the amount of current flowing through the circuit and thereby, can behave as an ammeter.
