the critical angle is the required value for the angle of incidence when angle of refraction is 90 degree by snell's law sin(i)/sin(r)= Refractive Index of medium 2 with respect to medium 1=refractive index of medium 2/refractive index of medium 1 let medium 2 be air=1 and medium 1 be water=1.33 sin(i)/sin90= 1/1.33 sin(i)/1=1/1.33 sin(i)=1/1.33 since 1.33 is approximately equal to √2 so, sin(i)=1/ √2 sin45=1/ √2 so i =angle of incidence =critical angle =45 degree=answer of the question i hope it was helpfull
