Jeelan Nazir 3 years, 5 months ago

Three main steps occur during photosynthesis.: 1) Absorption of sunlight/light energy by chlorophyll present in leaves. 2)conversion of light energy/Radiant energy into chemical energy and splitting of water molecules into hydrogen and oxygen. 3) Reduction of carbon dioxide to carbohydrates (glucose). The simple over all reaction of photosynthesis is fallow as: Carbon dioxide +water _____ Glucose+oxygen. 6co2+12h2o________ c6h12o6+6co2 ^ +6h12 Thus, photosynthesis is fundamental an oxidation-reduction process in which water is oxidized to o2 and Co2 is reduced to carbohydrates (glucose).
