Majoritarianism means that majority community will rule or will be dominant over other communities. In Sri Lanka three communities were there namely Sinhala, Tamils and Muslims. In 1956 an Act was passed which stated that Sinhala is the only official language of Sri Lanka, they give more importance to Sinhala so it was dominant over other communities. As Sinhala was in majority so they made the government and procedures were taken to preserve Sinhala's culture and tradition. Other communities like mainly Tamils they felt alienated and wanted they should vbe also give rights.
