After the first World War king of Turkey, religious leader of Muslim, khalifa was dethroned. The aligation was against this decision. It was started by shaukat ali & mohomad ali.Gandi ji take it as an Great opportunity to bring Muslims & Hindu under the umbrella of unified National Movemen. And started the non compration movement

To defend Khalifa's temporal powers, Khilafat Committee was formed in 1919 as he was considered as the spiritual head of Muslims. Gandhiji supported it because he saw it as an opportunity to bring Muslims under the umbrella of a unified National Movement
