1. The term Hindustan was used in a political sense for lands that were a part of the dominants of the Delhi Sultan. 2. In the 13 century the term hindustan was used for the areas of Punjab, Haryana and the lands between the Ganga and Yamuna river. 3. It is similar to the way the 14 century poet Amir Khusrau used the word "Kind" 4. The term Hindustan did not carry the political and national meaning which we associated with it today.

Over the centuries there has been a vast change in the meaning of the term “Hindustan”. Today it is understood as India, the modern nation state. In the thirteenth century the term stood for the lands under the Delhi Sultanate. Babur used the term to describe the geography, culture and fauna of the subcontinent.

The term 'Hindustan' was used for the first time by Minhaj-i Siraj, a thirteenth-century Persian chronicler. He, with this term, meant the areas of Punjab, Haryana and the lands between the Ganga and Yamuna. It was used in a political sense for lands constituting a part of the dominions of the Delhi Sultan.
