Given 2x²+3x+1=0
On comparing this equation with ax²+ bx + c = 0, where a = 2, b = 3, c = 1
∴ b²− 4ac = (5)²− 4 × 2 × 1
= 9 − 8
= 1
x = −b±b2−4ac / 2a
= −3±1 / 2×2
x = −3+1 / 4 or x = −3−1 / 4
x = −2 / 4 or x = −4 / 4
x = −1/2 or x = −1
