Phenol +water ----->Phenoxide ion + hydronium ion Alcohol + NaNH2 -----> sodium ethoxide + NH3 Alcohol+ Na-----> Sodium alcoxide + H2 Here you can observe that phenols readily for hydronium ions (H30+)which is more acidic than H+ ion liberation.
