Diffusion is a very slow process. If diffusion happens in multicellular organisms then it will take approximately 3 years to complete the oxygen requirement from head to feet.

Because all the cells of our body are not in direct contact with atmosphere and also multicellular organisms need more oxygen than other organisms. That's why diffusion is insufficient.
