Let the first no = x Second number = y according to the question - 17-y=3x - (1) Y+ 19 = 3x -(2) From eq (1) 17-y/3 = x - (3) Substitute equation(3) in (2) y+19= 3(17-y/3) y+19 = 17-y y +y = 17-19 2y = -2 y = -2/2 y = -1 Put y=-1 in equation (1) 17-(-1) = 3x 17+1 = 3x 18 =3x 18/3 =x x=6 Therefore, x=6 and y= -1
